My Swing by Sir Henry Cotton (what we are reading 2)

A book full of wrist action, driving and finding the slot. This 1952 book is one for those who get down and dirty whenever they’re in the long grass.

You guessed it, My Swing is a golf book.

It has been said that in two of  Cotton’s three Open Championship wins his caddy not only carried the bag but also a typewriter, a packet of Cuban cigars and a friendly Belgian masseuse named Aureli U. Liekdat.

To be serious his book is actually quite well respected amongst the golfing community, the guy is in the golfing hall of fame and still has fans today:

My Swing is a fascinating look at the world of golf coming out of the Second World War through the study of the technique of an exceptional sportsman.

I played golf just out of Dublin and forgive me age has lost his name but the pro at this links course told me the tale of how he lost the British Open to Henry Cotton, after a wayward shot his ball came to rest in a broken bottle, after much discussion whether he should take a penalty drop he decided to play the ball where it lie in the bottle and as he told me he stuffed it and good old Henry won the Open by a shot………….
